New Review – Steigenberger Berlin Airport Hotel (BER)

Location and booking

When it comes to finding a hotel directly at Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER), the options are pretty limited. The Steigenberger Berlin Airport Hotel is one of the few hotels right at the airport, so I figured it would be perfect for my early flight. However, the lack of signage at BER for the hotel was a bit of a headache. I ended up walking towards the S-Bahn station and then going all the way back around the airport. Sure, you could walk across the forecourt where the taxis park, but trust me, it’s not the best route (and it’s frowned upon). 😅

I’d booked the hotel in advance with a voucher I snagged during a sale (got a 15% discount), but that’s where the trouble began…

📝 Check-in: A Bumpy Start

Let’s just say, the check-in process wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. The staff did their best, but it wasn’t the most efficient. Despite having already sent my voucher ahead of time, there was still a large amount blocked on my credit card. I’m still waiting to see when they’ll sort that out. It wasn’t the most straightforward check-in experience, and I’m not sure if the issue was language barriers or just a lack of training, but it certainly wasn’t ideal. 🤷‍♀️

For those of you who prefer a more automated experience, there are also machines designed to speed up the process – but honestly, that didn’t help me much either. It was just… tedious.

🛏️ The Room: Comfortable, but Nothing Special

Once I got to my room, it was pretty much what you’d expect from a Steigenberger – decent, comfortable, and clean.

The bathroom was on the left, with a simple shower and toilet.

The beds took up most of the room (as always), but there was a large TV positioned across from it – great for chilling after a long travel day. A nice touch: there were two complimentary bottles of water waiting for me when I walked in. Always a plus!

There was also an armchair, a small table, a safe, and an empty minibar. No surprises here, just the essentials.

💪 Amenities: Fitness, Dining & WiFi Woes

Now, let’s talk about the amenities. The hotel has a fitness center and a gym (open 24 hours – which is awesome for those who need to burn off the pre-flight stress). On the first floor, you’ll find a bar and restaurant, as well as a breakfast room right next to it.

I didn’t get a chance to check out the breakfast room (too early for me!), but I did pop by the bar and restaurant. The space itself looked modern and stylish, but I couldn’t help but notice the unhappy vibe from the waiters. They were visibly frustrated and made it clear that they weren’t thrilled about serving guests. Not exactly the warm, welcoming atmosphere you expect from a Steigenberger hotel. 😕

And let’s talk about Wi-Fi – it was a bit hit-or-miss during my stay. The internet connection wasn’t always stable, and it took quite a bit of time to get sorted. This can be an issue, especially for those who don’t want to rack up roaming charges (hello, I’m looking at you, international travelers). Thankfully, I was offered a free breakfast for the inconvenience, but I politely declined. I didn’t feel like waiting around longer than necessary. 🥴

🧳 Check-out: A Slight Improvement

Check-out was a little bumpy too. The process wasn’t as smooth as I hoped, but at least I was promised a callback about the issues with the blocked credit card, which they did follow up on. So, a small win there. Out

🧐 Conclusion: A Mixed Experience

In the end, my stay at the Steigenberger Berlin Airport Hotel left me with mixed feelings. On one hand, the location is ideal for travelers who need easy access to the airport, and the hotel itself is decent – nothing spectacular, but solid.

However, the Wi-Fi problems, the credit card block issue, and the overall frustrating check-in experience cost me too much time and patience. If I were to stay at another hotel at BER in the future, I’d probably choose a different one (even if it’s part of the same hotel group). I think this one just didn’t live up to my expectations.

Bottom line: If you’re only staying one night for a super early flight and don’t mind a few bumps along the way, the location is unbeatable. But if you’re looking for a stress-free experience, you might want to explore other options. ✌️
